ACI Services Inc. is currently working with Southwest Research Institute (SWRI) and the US Department of Energy (DOE) in the development of a Linear Motor Reciprocating Compressor (LMRC). This is the second year in a three year $2.3 million DOE project that significantly advances technology in positive displacement machinery. The design of the LMRC has led to improvements in many areas that are applicable to reciprocating machinery such as: valves with improved flow versus wear and pressure loss curves, novel seal designs to reduce emissions and leakage, materials and coatings development for corrosion protection and resistance to hydrogen embrittlement, controls design for better efficiencies, and innovative system design with oil-free operation and modular installation. Testing of the 1st stage of the 3-stage design will occur this summer at SWRI’s San Antonio facility.
